Sample Sunday – 09/24/17

Happy Sunday, Beauties!

I hope you’ve been enjoying this new “series” on my blog. This has been a great way to use up those free samples I always get when I order online, or when I go into stores that offer samples, like Sephora and Shoppers Drug Mart.

This week, I picked the following 5 samples:

Name: Phyto Phytojoba Intense Hydrating Shampoo

Price: Full Size = $24.00 CAD, making this sample worth $1.43 CAD (Approx)

Review: This shampoo was a very liquid-y and thin consistency, which caught me off guard. It did not suds up a ton, but it felt super hydrating in my hair, which is surprising for a shampoo. It rinsed out really easily, and I felt that my hair looked so shiny and silky the next day!

Would I buy the full-size?: I want to say yes, but $24 is a lot for a shampoo, considering I wash my hair 2-3 times a week. This shampoo is for dry hair, which I don’t have. So even though I loved it, I think I’d pass on buying it full sized, but I do recommend it!

Name: Shu Uemura Ultimate Remedy Extreme Restoration Treatment

Price: Full Size = $66.00 CAD, making this sample worth $4.95 CAD (Approx)

Review: Before this sample, if I’m being honest, I didn’t know Shu Uemura made hair care products. This was a large sample, I was able to use it three times! It felt so hydrating and coated my hair without feeling heavy. It rinsed out effortlessly, and left my hair looking and feeling super healthy.

Would I buy the full-size?: At $66.00, I don’t think so. While I did love how this mask worked on my hair, I currently use the 3-Minute Miracle Moist Conditioning Treatment by Aussie, and it costs me $3.00.

Name: Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque

Price: Full Size = $35.00 CAD, making this sample worth $1.19 CAD (Approx)

Review: I have this co-worker who swears by this mask. I decided to go into Kiehl’s and buy a few products to test out, but the price-point of this mask made me pass on it. The employee gave me a few sample packs of the mask for me to try out (so nice!) and I really enjoyed it! The texture is almost like a heavy cold cream, and when you wash it off, your skin feels so soft!

Would I buy the full-size?: I really liked how it made my skin feel, but I can’t tell if it really did much to improve my pores or blackheads. I think I would buy the mini-travel size jar to really give it a chance, because I did like it but can’t justify the price.

Name: Sunday Riley Good Genes All-In-One Lactic Acid Treatment

URL: I can’t find the link to this, not even on the Sephora website even though this is where I got the sample from.

Price: Full Size = $194.00 CAD (Approx, I could only find the USD price of $158)

Review: I use a lactic acid treatment from Deciem about once a week, usually after I dermaroll. While I do get itchy skin the next day, I always assumed it was from dermarolling. I used this treatment before bed on a night that I did not dermaroll, and my skin immediately felt irritated. The next day, my skin was so itchy! I’m not sure if that’s how this product is supposed to work or if I had a reaction, but I didn’t enjoy the experience.

Would I buy the full-size?: Well considering this may be worth nearly $200 and it made my skin itchy, I would give this a big fat NO. My lactic acid treatment was like $7. You can find my review on it here.

Name: Murad Insta-Matte Oil Control Mask

Price: Full Size = $50.00 CAD, making this sample worth $0.50 CAD (Approx)

Review: I’ve used this mask in the past, I have a travel-size version that I got in a set from Sephora after hearing Grav3yardgirl rave about Murad products on her channel. I love using this mask as a spot treatment, so was happy to use this sample. My only qualm is the sample size itself, I was only able to cover my nose and chin, it was not enough for a full face mask, but maybe the point was to also use it as a spot treatment, or for ladies with incredibly small faces..?

Would I buy the full-size?: Even though I love this mask, since I only use it on really bad breakouts and as a spot treatment, I will continue to buy the travel-size since it’s cheaper. I do recommend this mask though, it’s great!

There you have it beauties! Have you tried any of these products before, if so, what were your thoughts?

Happy Sunday, enjoy your week, beautiful!
