We’re nearly a month into Fall and I’ve been rocking the plaid shirts and vampy lips! Another trend hitting us this Fall is the subtle rose and mauve colour tones – Something I’ve been dabbling into ever since receiving the Fall collection from Mary Kay. Here’s the low-down of the launch.
Included in the collection are 2 eyeshadow palettes, 2 lip sticks and 3 nail lacquers.
These eyeshadows are super buttery and creamy. They’re extremely pigmented and blend like a dream! While I was hoping for more warm-tone shades, both palettes are cool-toned. The rose palette is gorgeous and perfect for every day looks, but also make for a gorgeous smoky eye. For this review, I wanted to step outside of my comfort zone, and try playing with the blue shades in the Simply Smoky palette.
I know, I need to get my brows done. I’m growing them out so I can get them done before my Engagement shoot.
While most colours apply and blend easily, I really had to pack the navy blue shade on my lid in order to get the opacity desired. There was also very little fallout, which was surprising for such a dark shade. This is something I appreciate! Overall, these are great shadows, and they both fit perfectly into this Make Up For Ever Trio palette, which is $2 at Sephora, I have a review on them here.
I really love the feel of these lipsticks, they apply very thick and creamy, and feel extremely moisturizing. They have more of a shiny/satin finish and not really a suede finish. The Rose Blush shade is gorgeous and easy to apply. Mulberry Muse on the other hand applies slightly patchy. Both would benefit from a lip liner underneath but overall, they feel amazing on the lips and are decently long lasting compared to other brands of lipstick with a similar finish. I would have also loved to have seen a more brown-toned nude and a deep burgundy shade added to this collection.
As a heads up, I rarely swatch nail polishes for a few reasons. One, I normally have my nails done from the salon. Two, if I don’t have my nails done at the salon, I do at-home shellac using gel nail polishes. Three, when I give my nails a break from shellac and use regular nail polish, my cuticles are usually dry and my nails are usually short, so they don’t make for pretty pictures.
BUT, these shades applied gorgeously. They definitely each needed 2 coats for full opacity. Pink Escape is more of a spring/summer shade for me, but the other two are gorgeous and unique for the fall, and are definitely outside of my comfort zone in terms of colours – I prefer deep reds, plums and black shades for the Fall.
They last about 3 days chip-free, which is impressive for my thin brittle nails that only hold nail polish for 1 day without chipping.
Overall, I’m impressed with this collection from Mary Kay. I haven’t used their products in years, but their eyeshadows are so beautiful and blend like a dream, and they come out with unique shades that break the mould of conventional Fall shades.
